There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of baking your own sourdough bread—especially when you get to share that experience with friends, good wine, and a delicious cheese spread. Recently, we hosted an unforgettable workshop that brought together the art of sourdough-making with a fun, social evening. Led by Missy Geiger and I, participants got a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience. Here’s a peek inside the first ever event at The TKL SHOP, The Sourdough Workshop!
First things first, a moment for the set up! As guests arrived the tables were adorned in TKL goodies, including a branded apron that was gifted to participants, as well as stunning floral centrepieces from a local florist, Oleander Floral Design.
A Warm Welcome…and a Glass of Wine!
The evening kicked off with a warm welcome, a quick round of introductions, and, of course, glasses of wine for everyone to sip while settling in. It was an inviting atmosphere, and the cheese spread and hors d'oeuvres (especially the arancini), from my local fav Freebird Market, was just the start!
Step-by-Step Sourdough Success
In the spirit of making sourdough feel approachable, we provided our attendees with The TKL Box - Sourdough Edition, which was packed with everything needed for the workshop and beyond. Missy demonstrated each step, from the bubbly starter to creating the perfect loaf. As we mixed, kneaded, and folded, she shared tips, tricks, and the science behind sourdough’s unique fermentation process.
A Live, Take-Home Sourdough Starter
One of the highlights was our live, bubbly sourdough starter. Each participant received a portion of this thriving (150 year old!!) starter to continue their sourdough journey at home. Having this ready-to-go, healthy, starter is key to diving into the sourdough world!
Ready-to-Bake Loaves
To keep the sourdough momentum going, each participant also took home a ready-to-bake loaf, created by the sourdough queen herself, Missy. It was the perfect reward to savour after a hands-on evening of learning and kneading.
More to Come
We’re thrilled at how this workshop brought people together in the TKL community. After so much positive feedback, we’re already have some more unique event ideas ready to share with you soon!
A special thank you to Oleander for sponsoring the flowers and Free Bird for sponsoring the food!
