It’s no secret that I’ve been missing Target ever since they packed up and left Canada (and I know I’m not alone in this)! My sister and I used to cross the border a couple of times a year for a Target haul, and now that we have our home in Florida, that's where I get my fix.
Since jet setting to Florida, or hopping over the border isn't always an option, I’ve found another way to get my Target fix: third-party shipping services. CrossBorder Pickups, a service I’ve personally used and highly recommend, makes it possible to ship items from US retailers that don't offer direct shipping to Canada. This post is an update to my earlier guide on how to do just that, with a few new tips based on the recent updates to CrossBorder Pickups' website.
How Does It Work?
Here’s an updated step-by-step guide to help you ship your Target (or any other US retailer) orders to Canada using CrossBorder Pickups.
1. Create a Profile with CrossBorder Pickups
Start by signing up for an account with CrossBorder Pickups.
2. Get Your US Address
After signing up, you’ll be assigned a unique US address. This is the address you’ll use when shopping at US stores, including Target. Be sure to enter the correct unit number when placing your orders, as this will help them identify your package.
3. Shop Away!
Now comes the fun part! Head over to Target’s website (or any other US-based retailer), and place your order. When you check out, use the US shipping address provided by CrossBorder Pickups.
Pro Tip: If Target offers a "ship all together" option, definitely use it! Target often sends multiple packages, which can get a little tricky when managing them through CrossBorder Pickups.
4. Wait for Your Email
Once your order arrives at the CrossBorder Pickups facility, they’ll send you an email notification. This usually happens a day or two after you receive your delivery confirmation from Target (or whatever store you’ve shopped from).
5. Create Your Order (Updated!)
After your packages have arrived at CrossBorder Pickups, you’ll log in to your account. You’ll see the orders under “New: Unpaid” on your main dashboard.
Click on your order, and a new page will open. From here, click the “Edit” icon to enter the country of origin for each item, its value, and upload your receipt. This step is crucial, as it helps calculate duties and taxes.
6. Pay Duties and Choose Delivery Method
Once you’ve submitted your information, you’ll be taken to a page where you can pay your duties and shipping fees. At this stage, you can choose whether to have your order shipped directly to your address or to their pickup location in Mississauga, if you’re local.
A lot of you have asked about pricing and duties. Unfortunately, you do have to pay duties, and they’re calculated based on the value of your order. It’s unavoidable but necessary when bringing items across the border. Shipping fees are also involved, though I find them reasonable, especially since Target and many other retailers offer free shipping to CrossBorder Pickups' US address.
In Conclusion
I hope this updated guide makes shipping US orders to Canada feel a little less daunting! CrossBorder Pickups has truly made the process so much easier for us Canadian shoppers. If you have any more questions or need clarification, feel free to ask, or reach out directly to their customer service – they’re always super responsive!
And don’t forget to share your hauls with me on Instagram! I love seeing what everyone scores!
